The team was keen to bounce back from their first defeat of the
season.
Starting line-up was:
Brad – Goal
Thomas – R Back
Jason – L Back
Mitch – R Midfield
Ola – C Midfield
Alex E – L Midfield
Cain – Striker
Subs: Alex B, Brandon, Ryan & Joe
The team came flying out of the blocks and the
midfield trio of Mitch, Ola and Alex E were moving the ball around with
great finesse. This theme was to continue throughout the 40 mins. They
moved back defending when required, but pushing forward and giving great
service to Cain up front. Thomas & Jason were more than a match
when called upon to defend any breaks by the Rhinos.
The break came on 10 mins with a well worked move from midfield. Ola
picked the ball up in midfield and made a probing run to the left, drawing
their defence with him. This created a gap for Cain to run into, Ola
picked out Cain, again drawing in their defence leaving Alex E unmarked.
A well timed pass to Alex left him with just the keeper to beat. Alex
remained composed and fired in the opening goal. This was a great move
boys and possibly the best goal so far this season.
The Rhino’s continued to break but Tom and Jason stood firm. Brad
too was playing his part to ensure we kept a clean sheet.
Jason was rested after 15 mins after playing a crucial role. Alex B
was drafted in at L Back.
Shortly before half time we were making another attacking move. A Rhinos
defender handled the ball in his own penalty area. This was picked and
a penalty awarded. One of today’s debutants, Ola, stepped up and
duly converted the spot kick with a powerful drive to the right.
Half time bought some changes:
Ryan on at R Midfield for Mitch
Brandon on at L Midfield for Alex E
Joe on as striker for Cain.
We continued the second half in the same way
we finished the first half. Great link play in midfield between Brandon,
Ola and Ryan with Ola picking out Joe up front with some Beckham like
passes.
Brandon’s confidence was evident as he shut down their right midfield
whenever he was in possession. Ryan’s debut was impressive, making
numerous runs down the right.
Tom and Alex were steady as ever to the extent that Brad was rarely
called on to make a save. Brad was equal to any shots that the Rhinos
had making some fine saves.
Our third goal came from another fine run from midfield. A fine shot
from Ola beat the Rhinos keeper who managed to get behind the ball,
although, unlike the West Ham goal against Middlesboro, the ball had
clearly crossed the line. 3-0
Alex was rested with Jason coming on at L Back.
We continued to attack and defend with great effectiveness through to
the final whistle.
This was a great team performance showing maturity, insight and communication.
Our two debutants, Ryan and Ola had outstanding games, slotting straight
into the team.
Well done boys!
Darren
