Sunday 9th October

LD Comets (1) vs Corringham Cosmos City (5)

The boys were buoyant following victory in our first two matches.

We knew this would possibly be our toughest challenge yet as we had played them in a friendly last season. We were therefore aware of their ability.

Starting line up:

Brad  (Goal), Tom (Right Back), Alex B (Left Back), Mitch (Right Midfield), Wale (Central Midfield), Cain (Left Midfield), Alex E (Striker) Subs – Joe and Brandon

We started brightly, City were quickly made aware that the boys had developed since last season.

The midfield trio of Mitch, Wale and Cain were passing the ball with great panache – great link play with Alex E.

Our defensive duo of Tom and Alex were strong as ever.

Play was even on both sides with great end to end play. We had the breakthrough though on 10 mins with Cain dodging a defender and slotting the ball past their keeper. Great start, we were 1-0 up.

City continued to attack and were dangerous on the break, particularly their striker.

Play continued with plenty of chance at both ends Alex E, Cain, Wale & Mitch had numerous shots on goal, either forcing the keeper into some great saves or just going wide.

Brad made several crucial saves keeping the score at 1-0 when the half time whistle blew.

Half time bought two substitutions – Joe on For Alex, Brandon on at Left Midfield Cain dropping to Left Back giving Alex B a well deserved rest.

The start of the second half saw a determined City race out of the blocks to pull back a quick equaliser. We continued to press forward creating chances. City were becoming dangerous on the break and pulled out the lead. 2-1

The boys continued to fight for every ball, the midfield covering more ground than in any match before. A tiring Mitch was rested with Alex E Coming on to cover his position.

Alex B was called back on to Left Back with Cain moving up front – Joe was rested after giving everything.

City pushed on to be eventual 5-1 winners. The score-line clearly not reflecting the efforts of the boys who had a great game.

Be proud of your performance today boys you battled and never gave up.
