Sunday 2nd October FC Redwing Hawks (2) vs LTD Comets (3) |

The second league game of the season saw the Comets
travelling to a chilly Barleylands, where they played FC Redwing Hawks. The boys made a strong start to the game and dominated the
first 10 minutes with some good attacking moves from the midfield trio of
Cain, Wale and Mitchell, with Cain's putting in some great individual runs
down the left of the pitch. Their attacking play was rewarded after 10 minutes with
a through ball to Cain from Wale, which Cain dribbled past the defender and
slotted home for the first goal. Joe kept their defenders busy with some good
runs in the box and 5 minutes later Mitchell dribbled the ball down the right
side of the pitch, crossed it to Cain, who again took the ball round the
defender and hammered home his second goal. FC Redwing started to pressure the Comets a little
after this, but Alex B at left back and Thomas at right back put in some
great tackles with Bradley pulling off more than a few saves. Going into half
time the Comets were 2 nil up and after the break Shortly into the second half, Alex E picked the ball up
deep within the Comets own half, ran at the opposition, turned an FC Redwing
defender and drilled the ball into the net for the third goal. Again, FC
Redwing Hawks came back at the Comets with some strong pressure down our left
side, which was absorbed by With 5 minutes to go a tactical decision by the
coaching team saw Wale and Mitchell substituted for Joe and Cain, with Joe
now playing up front, Alex E in central midfield and Jason and Cain at left
and right midfield respectively. Whilst the Comets were settling in to their
positions FC Redwing took the opportunity to apply even more pressure and
scored 2 quick goals. With only a few minutes of the game left FC Redwing
hemmed the Comets into their own half, but some great defending by Alex B and
Thomas and a few goal-line saves by Bradley kept the score at 3 – 2 and
ensured that the Comets had earned 3 points at the final whistle. This was another great battling performance by
